The journey from ridiculous rumour to crazy concept was a relatively short one. But until now, an all-important element had been missing from the Nissan Juke-R project: its performance figures.
If you're not familiar with the Juke-R, here's a refresher: Nissan's UK outpost surgically removed the 3.8 litre twin-turbo V6 from the brand's hero GT-R, squeezing it into the chest of an unsuspecting Juke crossover.
With no small amount of messing about, the team settled on 358kW and 580Nm of torque, put to the road through the GT-R's all-wheel-drive system.
This week, Nissan has confirmed that the Juke-R is the world's quickest crossover. The 0-100km/h sprint is wrapped up in just 3.7 seconds, and top speed is listed at 257km/h.
The Juke-R is compact, but its dimensions haven't helped it much in the weight department. Thanks to its rollcage and reinforcements, the concept is actually heavier than the regular GT-R, at 1806kg (compared to 1740kg for the GT-R).
Nissan says the GT-R powered Juke won't be going anywhere near a production line, but as a road-legal concept, you just might see it touring the streets at future events. In Europe or the US, at least, where the Juke makes its home.
