Mazda CX-5 Australian Pricing Revealed In Online Contest

Mike Stevens | Dec 2, 2011

The pricing for at least one specification of Mazda's upcoming CX-5 small SUV has been revealed this week, tucked into the conditions of a contest being run on Mazda Australia's website.

Entrants are in the running to win the range-topping automatic-equipped 2012 CX-5 'GT' Diesel, powered by the Mazda's new green-focused 2.2 litre SkyActiv-D diesel engine

The SkyActiv-D engine produces 136kW and 420Nm of torque - and TMR's Tim O'Brien tested it earlier this year in a next-generation Mazda6 prototype (check out his review here).

While official showroom pricing is still to be revealed, the fine-print of the contest specifies a value of $55,000, including GST. (We would also assume this figure will include on-road costs.)

Australian dates for the CX-5 have not been announced, but a launch in the first few months of 2012 has been confirmed.

For your reference, Mazda's CX-5 contest page is right here.

Tip of the hat to reader Andrew!

Looks like a Hyundai Santafe, but without the good pricing of the Santafe..

Mazda, you're grasping at straws. FAIL

I like the look and engine spec, but maybe about 10-15k too much. For the top end model anyway.

At that price , it goes from the top of my list to the bottom.

We were told it would be cheaper than the CX-7 to line up directly against
Sportage, Forester, CRV etc. If the pricing is correct, they've wasted their carefully planned Skyactiv marketing campaign, with a last minute shot to the foot.

Range-topping Forester is $47,490 right now. How much are on-road costs?

Because the price above is for the range-topping CX-5, and obviously it includes on-roads and rego (couldn't possibly not include those) - the price difference can't be much.

Granted the range-topping CX-7 is $45,990 before on-roads, but still.

The price does include onroads. I can think of another diesel powered car for around the same price. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a proper 4wd thats bigger, more powerful and is loaded with kit.

Much as i like the CX-5 and am a fan of Mazda generally (i own one), i think Mazda are kidding themselves with that asking price.

$55k !? It is more expensive than
    Nissan X-Trail TS Wagon 4X4 2.0 DT,
Skoda Yeti 103TDI 4x4 DSG, Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4.

I can't believe that price is even close as it is way too expensive for that class of car. I was planning on ordering a top spec CX5 for the missus but at that price, they are dreaming. I will be ordering my original choice now instead, a Kia Sportage Platinum. I know, it's a Kia, but for $12 to $13k less & a better looking car anyway, it is worth the 6-9 month wait on the diesel & has great reviews to boot.

Hi all, never done this before but here goes.
CX5 in the USA is aimed at the $20k to $30k market.
Here I thought (expected)it was to be slightly cheaper than the CX7 $30k to $45k. If this is so,and looking at the exchange rate between us and the USA Mazda should be making at least double the Net profit per unit. If they price the top CX5 at $55k they will certainly not get any of my money.

madNice Car New Technology, and also new price range??
waited for 2-3 months to release the price to make my mind, not worth it, lost good deal in December, will buy VW. What about market, in US 0% interest rate for car, why not in AU. Best of luck for good sale in AU.

Mazda you are dreaming of $55k for top of the range. I was thinking of one until I saw the price. Be realistic and set a price that is on the road for under $50k. If it comes out at $55k you are going to loose a lot of potential customers. A KIA Sportage which I never contemplated until seeing one yesterday and priced just under $45k. I am going to wait and see the actual price of the GT CX-5 and hopefully it will be reasonably priced.

I agree, just had a look today, The CX5 is a nice SUV but they want $39,000 for the Maxx Sport FWD, which seems very pricey, The dealers are so up them selves also, i mentioned that my nephew just purchased a Kluger V6 base model AWD with leather for $40,000 he simply said , yeah but thats a Toyota this is a Mazda, i nearly choked, Mazda are a great car, as i have had 6 over that last 20 years and currently drive a SP25, but lets face it when it comes to AWD tech Toyota surely would get a thumbs up. I must say i was bitterly disappointed as i was also looking forward to buying slightly larger car for my growing family, but the price is just outside what i am willing to pay, looks like the new Subaru, or CRV will be the go or even a Kia (heaven forbid)

MAZDA - Wake up to yourselves, the money is not around like it use to be..

Yes, many car sales people have their heads where the sun never shines.
The price secrecy is amazing. Been to web three times and nothing.
      Thanks Max for the update.
Saw one today in the city, looked alot like a baby X5.
I think the 2.2 ltr oil burner will be the pick for long term ownership.
