Hyundai's Genesis Coupe badge won't be coming to Australia until there's an all-new model, thanks to the absence of a right-hand-drive configuration for the current platform. That hasn't stopped local enthusiasts watching the big two-door closely.

The flood of details for the car's upcoming 2012 overhaul continues this week with confirmation, at last, that the company's new 3.8 litre V6 and 2.0 litre engines will feature in the updated model.

Already available in the overseas Genesis luxury sedan, the new 3.8 litre naturally-aspirated Lambda GDi engine produces 248kW and 394Nm of torque.

Hyundai's boffins decided that wasn't enough for the Coupe however, boosting output to 260kW and 400Nm. For those keeping score, that's 15kW and 37Nm more than Nissan's brilliant 370Z.

The turbo version of the Genesis Coupe, a tuner favourite, has also come in for a massaging.

The outgoing model's 156kW/302Nm 2.0 litre turbo has been replaced by the newer 2.0 litre Theta engine, delivering 205kW and 372Nm in standard form.

Hyundai's new eight-speed automatic transmission will be available as an option with both engines, replacing the five- and six-speed auto boxes of the previous engines. A six-speed manual will be standard with both.
