2013 Mercedes-Benz B AMG Spied Testing

Mike Stevens | Nov 4, 2011

Mercedes-Benz's new B-Class small car will make its Australian debut in early 2012. Not long after, we can likely expect an AMG-enhanced flagship variant to appear on the international show circuit.

Reports of a performance-focused B-Class have been circulating for more than a year. Now, these new spy photos offer a first glimpse at what could be the top-shelf 'B AMG'.

Boasting dual exhaust-tips and sitting on large AMG five-spoke wheels, the test car shown here was caught outside AMG's headquarters in Germany this week.

Mercedes itself has yet to offer any hint on its plans for an AMG-massaged B-Class, but we could expect to see a specially-developed four-cylinder engine sending hot-hatch power to the small car's front wheels.

Some reports out of Europe have pointed to power figures in the realm of 240kW, blowing away the likes of the 188/199kW Golf R and even the 224kW Ford Focus RS.

That'd be something.

I would think it more likely that the AMG version will be 4wd rather than front wheel drive. The new platform is designed to accommodate 4wd, and a small crossover is one of the many varieties planned.
