The Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe, the spiritual successor to the CLK 63 AMG, is now available in Australia.

Like its sedan stablemate, the C 63 AMG Coupe is powered by a 6.2 litre naturally-aspirated V8 and takes drive to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic.

Producing 336kW and 600Nm of torque, the C 63's V8 is powerful enough to rocket the 1730kg coupe to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h, and fuel consumption is listed at 12.1 l/100km.

The seven-speed AMG SpeedShift MCT transmission features a launch control system, along with the requisite sports and manual shift modes.

A pair of metal paddles mounted behind the steering wheel allows the driver to change gears manually, while the shift lever also features a plus-minus plane.

Available as an option is the AMG Performance Package, which applies the lightweight pistons, conrods and crankshaft from the SLS AMG's engine to the C 63's V8. The result is greater throttle response and improved power delivery, plus an extra 22kW.

The Performance Package also brings composite front brake rotors and red-painted calipers, a carbon fibre bootlip spoiler and an Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel.

The C 63 AMG also benefits from a unique chassis set up that includes a three-link front suspension and a reinforced multi-link independent rear suspension.

Firmer spring and damper settings help rein in the V8's muscle, and the quicker 13.5:1 steering ratio also livens up the C 63's handling.

A set of lightweight AMG wheels sit at each corner, wearing 235/40R18 tyres at the front and 255/35R18 tyres at the rear. Wheel options include an alternative 18-inch wheel design and a pair of 19-inch designs, while handling can be further improved via an optional locking rear differential.

The C 63 AMG Coupe features the same creature comforts and safety equipment as the current C 63 AMG sedan, however a new addition is internet access through the COMAND multimedia system. Also included are a larger display screen, Bluetooth audio integration, SMS functionality and a USB input in the centre console.

Pricing for the the C 63 sedan and estate has not changed, and the new Coupe's entry price is the same as the wagon's.

  • 2012 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe - $154,800
