Volkswagen's new city car architecture is spreading through the carmaker's subsidiaries like a virus. First it was the original Up!, revealed earlier this year. The Skoda Citigo came in the following weeks.

This new strain sees the friendly infection spreading to Spain, with the unveiling this week of the Seat Mii. (No relation to the Nintendo Wii and its virtual avatars, we're told.)

While the Up! is already expected to make its Australian debut in 2012 and the Citigo is under consideration for a local launch, Seat's long absence from this country means the Mii will be contained to Europe, Asia and the Americas.

The Mii's styling follows the same formula as the Skoda Citigo: Only its unique face, a sharpened C-pillar and modest rear-end tweaks separates it from its Volkswagen progenitor.

In Europe, the Mii will launch with the same engines driving the Up!, including 44kW and 55kW versions of a new turbocharged and direct-injected 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol engine.

The Mii will launch in three-door form later this year, with a five-door variant joining the line-up after first debuting in Volkswagen Up! form next year.
