Audi's A3 Sedan Concept has been picked as a favourite of Germany's crystal ball-gazing enthusiasts, taking out Autobild Klassik magazine's "Classic of the Future" reader's choice award this week.

Revealed at March's Geneva Motor Show, the A3 Sedan Concept previews the next-generation A3, which will be offered in both hatch and sedan bodystyles.

Based on the current RS 3 flagship hot hatch (which we don't get in Australia), the concept is described as a 'classic notchback' sedan. At 4440mm long, it is 155mm longer than the current A3 hatch.

Unlike the RS 3, which utilises a version of Audi's 2.5 litre five-cylinder turbo engine, the A3 Sedan concept is packing 300kW and 500Nm of torque - 50kW and 50Nm up on the all-wheel-drive hot hatch.

The concept's performance figures are similarly impressive, the enhanced engine pushing the small sedan to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds - half a second quicker than the RS 3 will manage.

Artwork for the hatch version of the new A3 has also been released, teasing a stylised look at a sharper and sleeker approach to the next-generation small car.

The all-new A3 is expected to make its international production debut in the second half of 2012.
