2012 HOLDEN BARINA

Holden's all-new 2012 Barina is just over a month from making its showroom debut, but pricing for the new small hatch has been revealed at today's media launch.

Available from November with a starting price of $15,990 for the manual-equipped model (plus on-road costs), the launch of the new five-door Barina will mark a $1200 increase over the outgoing model.

Holden has confirmed however that it will offer the 2012 Barina with a special introductory price of $16,990 drive-away for the manual.

A price-rise for the new Barina has been expected for some time, with the smaller Barina Spark entering at $12,490 for the CD variant and topping out at $14,490 for the CDX.

The current Barina hatch will continue to be available until stocks are exhausted, carrying the name Barina Classic. The existing four-door Barina sedan will also continue, with its replacement not due in Australia until early next year.

Mechanical Package

The front-wheel-drive 2012 Barina is powered by a 1.6 litre petrol four-cylinder engine, producing 85kW and 155Nm of torque - a sevent percent increase in power and an 11 percent boost in torque.

Fuel consumption is down to 6.8 l/100km for the manual model and 7.3 l/100km for the six-speed automatic ($17,990).

Braking is managed by 256mm ventilated discs up front and 230mm drum brakes at the rear. Steering is a hydraulic power-assisted rack-and-pinion arrangement.

The new Barina also benefits from improved noise, vibration and harshness with new insulation and thicker glass, while new acoustic resonators have been utilised to direct engine noise away from the cabin.
