A revealing new photo of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class has surfaced online today, ahead of its official unveiling at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
Following the interior images released last month, and a single spy shot in June capturing a first look at its rear-end, today's release offers the most complete look yet at the new B-Class.
Mercedes is keeping mum on most of the details, although it is known that the new small people-mover utilises a modified version of its predecessor's modular platform.
Despite its 'recycled' underpinnings, the new B-Class has grown in length by 86mm, and in width by 7.0mm. Taking on a more sporting look all-round, the new model is also 43mm shorter, top to bottom.
Powertrains are expected to include a new 1.6 litre petrol engine with two states of tune: one producing 91kW and 200Nm of torque and the other developing 116kW and 250Nm.
Two diesel options will be offered, again with one engine tuned to deliver different figures. In one, the 1.8 litre turbodiesel will output 81kW and 250Nm, with the second producing 101kW and 300Nm.

Speaking with TMR, Mercedes-Benz Australia's David McCarthy confirmed an early 2012 debut for the new B-Class.
"We're aiming for near the end of the first quarter, but specific dates are still to be confirmed," Mr McCarthy said.

The new A and B-class are built on a new modular architecture, completely replacing the former "sandwich floor" construction. The special slant engines (which were part of the sandwich concept) have also been abandoned, replaced by conventional four-cylinder units similar to those in the C-class.
The new modular platform will enable Daimler to produce a range of vehicles including a sedan, 4-door coupe and small soft-roader. Some models will be available in 4WD.
