FPV GT BLACK

FPV has announced the release of a limited-edition new offering in its new supercharged V8 line-up: the 2011 GT Black.

Based on the black-on-black FPV GT Concept shown at this year's Australian International Motor Show, the special GT is limited to just 125 units.

“We knew we had a winner with the black paintwork and we wanted to action something immediately. The public spoke and we listened and I am just thrilled we have been able to put the GT Black into production so quickly," FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said.

“The GT Black is the beginning of some exciting times ahead as we continue to work on new product and design enhancements to reflect the needs and wants of the market.”

Largely a styling exercise, the GT Black is powered by the same supercharged 5.0 litre V8 engine driving the regular GT, producing 335kW at 5750rpm and 570Nm of torque between 2200 to 5500rpm.

“The FPV GT Black is available in one colour only, so there will be no confusion when it comes to placing an order for colour on this one,” Barrett added.

Adding to the Silhouette Black paintwork, the limited-edition model gets matt black striping decals on the bonnet, rear wing and bodysides, and the Silhouette Black finish has also been applied to the upper and lower grilles.

Continuing the theme is the blacked-out fog lamp bezels and exhaust tips, and GT premium 19-inch alloy wheels with black wheel nuts.

In the cabin, the all black theme continues with black leather trim throughout, a black finish around the Interior Command Centre (ICC) unit, tissue box and door spears, and a unique black gear shift badge on manual transmission models.

The GT Black also gets a reversing camera and leather seating, along with a unique build badge and certificate of authenticity.

Pricing

The recommended Manufacturer's List Price for the GT Black is $74,290 (compared to $71,290 for the regular GT), at participating FPV Dealers only.

So they left off the forged rims, bigger rear rubber and the suspension tune?

Yep, all the stuff that actually made it desirable have been left off. Instead they give you a GT with black paint. "The public spoke and we listened".... really? Not sure what muppet said that all he wanted from the concept was the paint and nothing more, but I would have thought the rest of the package would have been the bits most customres wanted (including the ducst in teh front bumper which look far better than the driving lights)

Yet you would probably complain when the price tag was much larger if all these extras where included.

It wouldn't have to be that much dearer. They've knocked the 'black' tag off AMG where it means business, promised much via the concept, then given us a cosmetic fail.

Most of the changes actually dont cost much. Suspension tune costs nothing other than development costs, wider rims might cost a few hundred above skinnier rims, different grille insert should save money as the electrics for the driving light is removed and straight through exhaust just means less baffles. Agree that the bigger brakes would cost more. The biggest cost is development costs which would be part of the budget anyway.
