Japan's oldest carmaker Daihatsu has been absent from the Australian market for five years, and it will exit the European market in 2013.

The Toyota-owned brand continues to operate in its homeland however, along with North America and a number of Asian markets.

This week, Daihatsu's Indonesian subsidiary Astra Daihatsu Motor has revealed a sharp new citycar design study, dubbed simply 'A-Concept'.

Unveiled at the 2011 Indonesia International Motor Show, the A-Concept is described as a compact, economical and practical car designed to appeal to the country's city dwellers.

"Under the theme "Driving Heart to Green Living," ADM will express Daihatsu's corporate stance at this show," a Daihatsu statement reads.

"The intent is to supply automobiles grounded in the lifestyles of Indonesia's people by applying its small car technologies that achieve high fuel efficiency, resource conservation and affordable prices."

Daihatsu hasn't confirmed a market debut for the A-Concept, and while it could make its way to the Japanese market, it is unlikely that the A-Concept will see European roads. An Australian relaunch for the brand is also unlikely.
