Suzuki has yet to announce that a new Swift Sport is on the way, but insider tips and comments at last week's Australian International Motor Show from local boss Takeshi Hayasaki point to a 2012 debut for the range-topping model.

Now, new reports drawing on comments from the spokesperson of Suzuki's Russian operations have revealed a number of tantalising, but unconfirmed, technical details for the swiftest Swift.

According to industry paper GoAuto, Suzuki Russia's Peter Bondarchuk has confirmed that the Swift Sport will debut in a three-door bodystyle, matched with a 100kW 1.6 litre petrol engine and a six-speed manual transmission.

In a press release purportedly issued to the Russian press, Bondarchuck adds that the Swift Sport is currently testing at Germany's Nurburgring course and is expected to debut sometime in 2012.

Translated by GoAuto, the release reportedly confirms that Suzuki "plans at the beginning of next year to develop the series modification of the Swift S-Concept." A launch date is unclear, although a debut at December's Tokyo Motor Show is expected.

The report adds that much of the S-Concept's lairy styling is expected to carry over into production, including a version of the bumpers, skirts and rear wing.

Power for the S-Concept is provided by a 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Output has not been revealed, although it is likely a version of the 92kW four-cylinder M16A engine used in the current Swift Sport.
