With generally positive reviews supporting the recent Fast Five ('Rio Heist' in Australia), a 2013 release for the next instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise has been confirmed.

The announcement comes as no surprise, either: Fast Five gave Universal Pictures its strongest opening-weekend ever, and is on its way to take more than $600 million in worldwide ticket sales.

Few details have been released at this early stage, although a short press release has confirmed that the sixth film in the series will once again reunite much of its ensemble cast, including Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.

Director Justin Lin will also also line up for his fourth episode in the franchise - following Fast Five, Fast & Furious and Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift.
