The September debut of BMW's all-new M5 is drawing nearer, and a new video released today offers a glimpse of the hoonery that awaits future owners.

The new video, which shows BMW engineers hurling the 2012 M5 around the company's Autodrome de Miramas in France, is the latest in a series of teasers and spy photos.

"The number one goal of the new M5 is to create an even more exciting driving experience. It has to be faster on the race track, and we have proven already that it is faster than its predecessor," Albert Biermann, M division's Vice President for Engineering, explains in the video.

"We wanted to provide a wider range of driving experiences, from quite convenient and comfortable, to real extensively sporty like a real race car, on the rack track. And that's what it is."

BMW offered the first look at the upcoming M5 at last month's Shanghai Auto Show with the Concept M5. The concept borrows a few key cues from its smaller M3 stablemate, featuring a trapezoidal air dam in the front bumper flanked by large intakes.

The new M5 will be powered by BMW's twin-turbo 4.4 litre V8, with output rumoured to be up around the 430kW mark - besting its predecessor by nearly 60kW.

While the M5 shown in the new video is clearly churning power through the rear wheels, BMW is reportedly also working on an all-wheel-drive xDrive variant.

The 2012 M5 will make its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Keep an eye on TMR for all the details.
