For Australia, the E 350 CGI gets the company's new BlueEfficiency 3.5 litre petrol V6 engine - already serving in the updated S-Class - boosting power to 225kW.
The E 350's 0-100km claimed sprint time remains unchanged at 6.3 seconds, although fuel consumption falls from 9.4 to 6.8-7.0 l/100km on the New Europen Driving Cycle (NEDC).
Marking an improvement of up to 20 percent, the new fuel figures come courtesy of the standard ECO start/stop system and the carmaker's revised 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission.
For now, the top-shelf E 500 will continue in Australia with the existing 5.5 litre V8, producing 285kW and 530Nm of torque.
Speaking with TMR today, Mercedes-Benz Australia's David McCarthy said that the company's new 4.6 litre V8 is expected to come across "in time", bringing 300kW and 600Nm with it.
The E-Class' range of four-cylinder models will also be updated for Australia, with the 220 and 250 CDI diesel models and the 250 CGI all gaining Mercedes' 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission. The new transmission replaces the current 5-speed automatic.
Fuel consumption is improved for all three models as a result, the 220 and 250 CDI falling to 4.9-5.3 l/100km (NEDC). The 250 CGI is similarly improved, dropping to 6.6-7.0 l/100km (NEDC). Australian fuel consumption figures will be confirmed closer to launch.
Australian sale dates for the updated models are still to be confirmed, although Mr McCarthy said today that a third-quarter launch is expected.
