Audi has confirmed that its 2012 A6 sedan will make its local debut at July's Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) in Melbourne.

This news follows the international unveiling of the all-new A6 in December, ahead of its European launch earlier this year.

Australian specifications and pricing will be released closer to the A6's AIMS debut on July 1, although Audi has confirmed both petrol and diesel powertrains.

Internationally, the A6 range features two petrol and three diesel options, bringing a range-wide fuel consumption improvement of up to 19 percent over the outgoing model.

“I’m really looking forward to announcing specifications and pricing in Melbourne," Audi Australia Managing Director Uwe Hagen said.

"I’m confident that the A6 really will take its market segment by storm – it is a deeply impressive vehicle in a market where impressions matter."

One model still be to confirmed - or skipped - in the Australian market is the A6 Hybrid, revealed at January's Detroit Auto Show.

The A6 Hybrid is powered by a petrol-electric system that sees a 155kW 2.0 TFSI petrol engine paired with a 33kW/211Nm electric motor. The A6 Hybrid can reach 100km/h on electric power alone, with a driving range of three kilometres in all-electric mode.

With both the petrol engine and the electric motor in play, the A6 Hybrid covers the 0-100km/h sprint in 7.3 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 238km/h. Fuel consumption is listed at 6.2 l/100km, and CO2 emissions are listed as 142g/km.

The Australian International Motor Show is on at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 6pm Friday, 1 July through to Sunday, 10 July 2011.

Stay tuned to TMR for all of the coverage leading up to the event, and on the opening day.
