Honda has confirmed that a tweaked version of its new CR-Z hybrid sports car will debut at July's Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.

Power will be provided by the same electric motor and a strengthened version of the 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol engine that drives the regular CR-Z, with one special addition: a supercharger.

Honda says the Mugen Euro-enhanced CR-Z will produce "around" 145kW and 245Nm of torque, thanks also to a specialised electronics program.

"The idea was to use the significant advantage of the early torque provided by the Honda IMA electric motor, then increase the torque available from the petrol engine gradually, to first maintain and then increase this," MUGEN Euro's Colin Whittamore said.

"A supercharger and complementary electronics allow us to very neatly map the IMA to the extra power and torque of the engine in a unique package, giving a smooth, integrated and powerful driving experience."

Other features include larger brake discs and four-piston monobloc calipers behind 17-inch forged alloy Mugen GP wheels.

A Mugen bodykit will also feature, including front and rear under-spoilers, side-skirts and a rear wing. Judging by the illustrations shown here, expect it to look a lot like the Mugen package revealed early last year.

Don't expect to see this one in showrooms however, as the Mugen Euro-enhanced CR-Z is a one-off showcar for Goodwood.

Australia

The CR-Z is expected to make its Australian debut in the next few months, likely in July or August.
