Audi has announced a couple of new additions to their rakish coupe line-up with the launch this month of the A5 3.2 FSI quattro tiptronic and the S5 4.2 FSI quattro tiptronic just two of the four new models expected to arrive in the next 12 months.

The big news is the imminent arrival of the all-paw A5 3.2 FSI quattro tiptronic which is priced from $95,900. Powered by the same direct injection 3.2 FSI petrol engine as the A5 multitronic, in quattro tiptronic guise it’s mated to a 6-speed tiptronic transmission that works in combination with Audi’s renowned quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.

Offering a maximum of 195kW at 6,500rpm and 330Nm of torque from 3,000 – 5,000rpm, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds. Fuel consumption is an impressive 9.3 L/100 kilometres on the combined cycle.

The A5 quattro model is the second to arrive in Australia, with additional engine variants, the 3.0 TDI and 1.8T FSI, to follow over the next twelve months.

It may be a sporty coupe but the A5 will seat four comfortably and features a load volume of 455 litres. As first featured in the A5 3.2 FSI multitronic launched at the end of 2007, the ignition key is a design feature of the A5 and S5 range and dispenses with the conventional key bit.

The key communicates electronically with the vehicle’s electrical system as soon as it is inserted into the cockpit and also stores important information, such as the car’s current mileage or warning messages from the Audi A5’s driver information system.

As already mentioned, there is another new arrival this month with Audi making the tiptronic transmission available in the S5 range. Completing the Australian Audi S5 line-up, the new 4.2 FSI quattro tiptronic is priced from $131,900 matching the S5 4.2 6-speed manual variant on both price and standard specification.

The A5 model range has proven to be an unexpected hit for Audi with in excess of 36,000 units having been sold since its launch in Europe in April 2007.

In Australia, more than 360 units (A5 3.2 multitronic and S5 4.2 quattro manual only) have been sold since October 2007.
