Rumours of a production future for the Renault Captur concept are picking up speed. Reports out of Europe this week suggest the sporty crossover could make a market debut in the next two years.

The reports follow earlier claims that a production version of the Captur had been greenlit after it garnered a positive response in its Geneva debut.

According to British magazine Autocar, two versions of the Captur will be built. The first will be a three-door variant based on the existing concept, and this will be followed by a five-door variant - echoing the approach used for Range Rover's upcoming Evoque.

Similar in size to the Nissan Juke and using the same platform, the Captur would be the first compact crossover to offer three- and five-door bodystyles.

Power for the new models will reportedly come from a range of 1.6 and 1.8 litre petrol and diesel engines, including 95kW and 120kW versions of the company's turbocharged 1.6 litre dCi engine.

The report adds that Renault insiders have confirmed a debut for the production Captur within the next two years.
