2012 HOLDEN MALIBU

Chevrolet's new mid-sized sedan, which we will see badged here as the 2012 Holden Malibu, is drawing nearer to its New York Auto Show unveiling.

To build anticipation, Holden last week released a teaser image that offered a close-up look at the new mid-size sedan's Camaro-inspired taillights.

Today, Chevrolet has given us a glimpse of the Malibu's interior. In focus is the centre stack, featuring a touch-screen infotainment system and an ice-blue illumination that will be familiar to owners of the Holden Cruze small car.

Blurred in the background is another Camaro-inspired feature: a double chrome-ringed instrument cluster with separate tachometer and speedometer housings.

The Malibu in Australia

Replacing the ailing Epica (never a top performer and well behind the likes of the Mondeo, Liberty and i45 in sales), the new model will wear the Malibu badge when it arrives in Australia, Holden has confirmed today.

“The Malibu will play an important role within the Holden line-up, providing a spacious and efficient four-cylinder alternative for Australian customers,” Holden boss Mike Devereux said.

“Malibu will bridge the gap between our incredibly successful Cruze small car and the best-selling Commodore."

“It will be a standout on the road, with striking styling in the same vein as recent additions to the GM portfolio, including the new-generation Barina and Cruze hatch. Like the Cruze, Malibu will surprise customers with its array of clever technologies and features.”

Chevrolet is expected to offer one more teasing glimpse of its new global mid-size sedan before its April 18 (April 19 in Australian time) unveiling - so keep your eyes peeled.
