Skoda Octavia Scout 4x4 DSG Launched In Australia

Skoda Australia has announced the addition of a new DSG automatic-equipped model to the Octavia Scout 4x4 range, along with a new range-topping Premium variant.

Joining the existing six-speed manual Scout 4x4, the DSG model is powered by Volkswagen's 103TDI 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, producing 103kW and a healthy 320Nm of torque (the latter at 1750rpm).

The diesel engine is paired with the Volkswagen-sourced six-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission, which offers fully automated and manual Tiptronic driving modes.

There is also the option to choose between economy or sports modes - the transmissing shifting gears at higher engine speeds in sports mode for maximum power output, and at lower engine speeds in economy mode for reduced fuel consumption.

Power is sent to all four wheels through a fourth-generation Haldex all-wheel-drive system.

In both six-speed manual and six-speed DSG automatic form, the Octavia Scout 4x4 returns fuel consumption figures of 6.1 l/100km and CO2 emissions figures of 160g/km.

Design and Dimensions

As with the six-speed manual model, the Octavia Scout 4x4 DSG is set apart from the regular Octavia wagon thanks to larger and more rugged looking bumpers at the front and rear.

It also gets moulded side protective strips and profiled door sills for greater protection of the bodywork.

The Octavia Scout 4x4 is 4584mm long, 1784mm wide and is 1583mm high at 180mm ground clearance. Octavia Scout 4x4 models have modified springs which raise the ride height by 40mm over the standard Octavia Wagon.

The standard 580-litre luggage compartment can be increased to 1,620 litres by folding the split 60/40 rear seat backrests. There is also a load-through provision in the rear seat backs for transporting long items in the car.

Safety and Features

The Octavia Scout 4x4 is equipped as standard with the 'Columbus' satellite navigation system, 17-inch 'Proteus' alloy wheels, heated front seats, dual-zone air conditioning, cruise control, twin chrome exhausts and unique ‘Scout’ highlights in the cabin.

The Premium model adds electric glass sunroof, privacy glass from B-pillar, and ‘Proteus’ 17” polished alloy wheels, Alcantara leather appointed upholstery, and electric driver’s seat with memory.

Were you testing these in Brisbane, by any chance? I saw one on the Freeway heading south out of the city on Thursday morning. Looked unusual enough for me to notice it.
