Hyundai has capped off its part in the 2011 YouTube Symphony Orchestra in Sydney this weekend with the announcement of four all-new models for Australia, due later this year.

2012 Hyundai Elantra

Leading the way will be Hyundai's new 2012 Elantra, a small sedan that has long been promised for Australia under the codename 'MD', leaving buyers to wonder if the Elantra name would remain or if a new 'i' badge would be introduced.

Wonder no more: the Elantra name is staying. The new model looks a lot sharper than the old however, reflecting the same 'Fluidic Sculpture' styling as the ix35 compact SUV and i45 medium sedan.

In South Korea, the new Elantra is offered with a 1.2 litre petrol engine direct-injected 'Gamma' GDI engine, paired with the company's new six-speed automatic transmission and producing 102kW and 166Nm of torque.

Australian specifications will be revealed closer to the new Elantra's local launch in the third quarter of this year.

2012 Hyundai Accent

Following the Elantra later in the third quarter will be the 2012 Accent, a light sedan that will be offered alongside the i20 five- and three-door hatch models.

The Accent rides on a slightly longer wheelbase, measuring 2570mm to the i20's 2525mm. As a sedan, its overall length is also greater at 4340mm compared to the i20 hatch's 3940mm.

Width is similar for the two light cars however, the accent at 1700mm and the i20 at 1710mm across the middle.

Like the i20, the Accent is offered with two engine options overseas, including the 79kW 1.4 litre and 91kW 1.6 litre petrol engines.

Specifications will be revealed closer to the Accent's launch.

2012 Hyundai i40 Wagon

The i40 Wagon, launched at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, is scheduled to make its Australian market debut in late 2011.

Designed and engineered in Germany for the European market, the i40 Wagon largely reflects the styling of the i45.

In development, the i40 was known as the 'VF', and Hyundai has since revealed that it is built on the same platform that underpins the i45.

Overseas, the i40 Wagon is offered with three engine choics: a 1.7 litre diesel engine available in 85kW and 100kW guises, along with 104kW 1.6 litre and 130kW 2.0 litre direct-injected petrol engines.

Australian details have yet to be revealed, although the i40 Wagon is expected to be sold alongside the i45 sedan, giving Hyundai a competitor to the medium Mazda6 and Ford Mondeo wagons.

2012 Hyundai Veloster

Lastly, in late 2011, Hyundai will unveil the Australian-market Veloster sports hatch.

The uniquely-styled Veloster has an intriguing arrangment to its doors. On the driver's side, the coupe features one door and a regular rear-quarter window, while the passenger side gains a small rear passenger door - allowing passengers to exit without unsettling the front occupants.

The Veloster will draw power from the same 102kW/166Nm 1.6 litre 'gamma' four-cylinder engine driving the new Elantra.

While certainly not overburdened with power, weighing in at just 1170kg, the Veloster should still have some shuffle.
