2011 FORD TERRITORY

Ford Australia has given fans an early Christmas present today, releasing a teaser image of the upcoming 2011 Territory SUV.

Launched in 2004 and with two significant updates under its belt, the Territory is set to come in for what will likely be its last update before Ford's streamlined global line-up takes hold in the company's Australian range.

As this official image shows, the Territory won't go down without a fight, and Ford Australia has committed to its Falcon-based SUV until at least 2016.

The Territory continues to be a seller for Ford, although it currently lags behind the Holden Captiva and Toyota's Kluger and Prado in 'Medium SUV' sales.

"The Ford Territory set a new benchmark when it was first released and it is set to achieve this again - and more," Bob Graziano, new President and CEO of Ford Australia said today.

"This is an exceptional SUV. It wears an exciting new look and will boast an extensive list of technical highlights. The Ford Australia team is taking the Territory to an all-new level of performance, refinement and quality, and customers will definitely experience these advancements when they drive it."

Designed in Australia, the updated Territory's new face draws styling cues from Ford's international 'Kinetic' design language, while bringing Ford Australia's own flair to the task.

Ford Australia says the 'new' Territory will also feature a major interior update, along with the addition of a diesel powerplant, understood to be a version of the 2.7 litre turbo-diesel V6 engine currently driving some Land Rover models.

More details and images for the updated Territory are expected to be revealed early in 2011, likely at the Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne.
