Revealed in detail back in August, Ford Australia has today announced availability of the updated-for-2011 Ford Fiesta Hatch and the all-new Fiesta Sedan.

Among its updates for 2011, the Fiesta gains Ford's Powershift six-speed automatic transmission, along with wider availability of the 1.6 litre diesel engine previously offered only with the efficiency-focused Fiesta ECOnetic.

TMR Managing Editor Tim O'Brien is at the launch today of the 2011 Fiesta. Watch for his road test review.

Styling

The 2011 Fiesta remains largely unchanged on the styling front, but for the addition of the all-new sedan variant.

New wheels have been added to the range, while CL and LX models gain subtly restyled bumpers and the flagship Zetec model (first quarter 2011) gets a new honeycromb grille and sports bumper design with chrome inserts.

The sedan body style will be available in both CL and LX specification levels.

Interior

The 2011 Fiesta's interior remains unchanged, however the Zetec model features new sports seats up front.

On the entertainment front, the Fiesta CL is fitted with Bluetooth, partnered with voice-control technology. All models feature a six-speaker sound system as standard, along with MP3 and AUX connectivity.

At the entry-level, Fiesta's safety features includes five airbags, ABS braking, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and traction control.

The Fiesta LX and Zetec models gain the added protection of side curtain/thorax airbags, along with driver's knee airbag with driver and passenger seat belt reminders.

The updated Fiesta range gains feature Ford's Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) as standard, a system previously available on CL and LX models as part of the Safety Pack.

Mechanical

For 2011, the Fiesta range comes with a new 1.6 litre diesel engine on offer (in addition to the ECOnetic diesel which continues as a special model).

Available with the WT Fiesta LX sedan, LX hatch or Zetec hatch (available 2011), the diesel engine lists fuel consumption figures of just 4.4 l/100km, compared to the 3.7 l/100km figures of the ECOnetic.

A 1.6 litre petrol engine with manual transmission is also standard across the updated Fiesta range, except for the ECOnetic and CL sedan variants.

Producing 89kW and 151Nm of torque, the petrol engine lists fuel consumption figures of 6.1 l/100km.

Ford's Powershift six-speed double-clutch automatic transmission, available with the larger Focus, now features in the updated Fiesta (although lacking the manual shift control available with the Focus). It is available with the 1.6 litre petrol engine only.

A new sports suspension system underpins the sporty WT Fiesta Zetec hatch. This combines specially-tuned front struts, bushings and damper stabiliser bars to enhance driving performance. New sports front seats will feature inside the updated Zetec.
