Talk of a F-enhanced Lexus GS has returned to the spotlight this week, with US magazine Road & Track reporting that the brand's hero IS F will soon have a larger sibling.

The report claims that the rumoured GS F is rumour no longer, with unnamed sources at Toyota confirming that the hi-po sedan will be powered by a 5.0 litre V8 - presumably the same engine driving the IS F - tweaked to produce nearly 350kW.

Those same sources reportedly confirmed a 0-60mph (96km/h) time of "less than 4.5 seconds" - thanks not only to its V8 heart but also a liberal use of aluminium and carbon fibre components.

This latest 'news' comes after earlier reports by British magazine Autocar - also quoting unnamed inside sources - which claimed that Toyota will plant a de-tuned version of the Lexus LFA's 412kW V10 engine under the GS F's bonnet, producing instead around 335kW.

With even BMW expected to switch to a V8 for the next-generation M5, it would come as no surprise if Toyota elected to power-up the IS F's V8 instead of de-tune the more high-tech and expensive LFA engine.

Road & Track says we'll see the GS F sometime after an overhauled GS appears in 2012.
