As the Federal Government's Electronic Stability Control deadline draws near, Suzuki Australia has today announced the addition of ESP to the entry-level Alto GL city car, making the life-saving technology standard equipment across the two-model Alto line-up.

Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese announced last year that ESC will be mandatory for all new passenger cars from November 2011.

The safety upgrade comes at no extra charge, the Alto maintaining its starting driveaway price of $12,490.

The addition of Electronic Stability Program to the Alto GL follows news in July that Suzuki Australia has added low-rolling resistance tyres to both models, reducing the manual's fuel consumption from 4.8 l/100km to 4.7 l/100m (2.2 percent improvement) and CO2 emissions drop from 113g/km to 110g/km (3.3 percent).

For the automatic Alto, fuel consumption falls from 5.5 l/100km to 5.3 l/100km, and CO2 emissions are down from 130g/km to 126g/km.

The Alto is powered by a 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 50kW and 90Nm.
