Honda has confirmed it will launch a production version of its ultralight NSC concept early next year.

Before it makes its international market debut, the new model will be unveiled at the 2010 Thailand International Motor Expo later this month.

Revealed at the Delhi Auto Expo in January, the NSC - short for New Small Concept - is described as a small five-seater family car. Powertrain details were not offered at the time, and Honda remains tight-lipped on what we can expect to see under the bonnet of the production version.

Honda has so far confirmed launches for Thailand, where high fuel-efficiency requirements make ultralight cars particularly appealing, and India, where superminis like the Suzuki Alto have been popular for some time.

In Australia, the production NSC would compete in the slowly growing ultralight segment against the Suzuki Alto, Holden's Barina Spark and, if it arrives, the Hyundai i10.
