With only two weeks remaining until the Paris Auto Show, Porsche has today revealed the 2011 Porsche Carrera GTS: rear-wheel-drive but in the Carrera 4's all-wheel-drive clothes.

The 911 Carrera GTS enters the line-up just above the 911 Carrera S and gets a boost in power to show for it, its 3.8 litre flat-six churning out 300kW of power - 17kW more than the Carrera S. Maximum torque is unchanged at 420Nm, although it now comes 200rpm earlier.

The extra power of the GTS comes courtesy of a special resonance intake manifold with six vacuum-controlled tuning flaps (rather than the Carrera S' one) switching between power and torque-optimised geometry.

A new exhaust system is also a feature of the GTS, designed to offer a unique sound separate from the Carrera S.

Available in both Coupe and Cabriolet bodystyles, the Carrera GTS uses the 44mm-wider body of the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4, giving it a wider track while retaining a rear-wheel-drive layout.

The GTS' 3.8 litre six is paired to a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with Porsche's seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission available as an option.

Acceleration is slightly improved over the Carrera S, the GTS making its way to 100km/h in just 4.2 seconds - shaving 0.1 seconds off the time of the S.

The GTS sits on 19-inch gloss-black alloy wheels and wears a GTS-only SportDesign body kit with black-backed headlights.

Inside, the Carrera GTS features a standard black interior but with added black Alcantara highlights.

Australia

The 2011 Porsche Carrera GTS is set to go on sale in Europe in December, with an Australian launch scheduled for January 2011.

The Carrera GTS comes standard with Porsche’s six-speed manual transmission and is priced from $270,100 for the Coupe and $288,700 for the Cabriolet.
