CITROEN DS4

Citroen has today unveiled the second model in its new upmarket DS line, the 2011 Citroen DS4.

Based on the Citroen DS High Rider concept revealed earlier this year - and in fact virtually identical in its design - the Citroen DS4 will make its first public debut at next month's Paris Auto Show.

As with the clear relationship between the smaller Citroen C3 and the upmarket DS3 version, the DS4 enters the Citroen line-up as the prestige version of the C4 - while also bringing its own unique styling features to the range.

"Reinterpreting cues opened up new possibilities, bringing practical and surprising solutions to automotive mobility," Marc Pinson, the DS4's design chief said.

The DS4 measures 4.27 metres long, 1.81m wide and 1.53m tall, making it at once wider, taller and shorter - a fact made most obvious by the tiny rear doors - than its C4 sibling.

Inside, the DS4 borrows again from the C4, the already-appealing dash design wrapped in a wide-stitch leather. Allowing owners to personalise the interior, the DS4 will be available with a choice of five leather combinations, including two-tone options.

Range-topping models are also equipped with high quality leather on the dashboard and door panels. The seats too are the same pews offered with the C4, but the DS4 instead features the watchband-like stitching first shown in the DS3 Inside concept.

In Europe, the DS4 will be launched with five engine options, including two diesel and three petrol engines.

The 2011 Citroen DS4 is set to go on sale in Europe early next year, with an Australian launch planned for the third quarter of 2011.

For now, Australian buyers will be well looked-after in the coming months, with the DS3 set to launch in September, the C3 arriving in November and the C4 set to launch around this time next year.
