Chrysler and its new partner Fiat have already confirmed plans for a series of extensive updates and new models across the group's brands and, according to industry paper Automotive News, Jeep looks set to lead the way.

As part of the American carmaker's image overhaul, Jeep will reportedly be the only brand offered globally. The company is aiming to dramatically increase Jeep sales, from 300,000 in 2009 to 800,000 per year by 2014.

Revealed earlier this year and due to make its Australian debut in early 2011, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee will form the tip of Jeep's global assault.

The Australia-delivered Grand Cherokee will draw power from the new 3.6 litre Pentastar V6 petrol engine, developing 209kW and 352Nm of torque. A 5.7 litre Hemi V8 making 260kW and 528Nm of torque will top the Grand Cherokee range in the US, but its availability for Australia is not yet clear.

A small crossover is reportedly planned, built on a Fiat-developed platform. While little is known about the model at this early stage, it is expected to arrive sometime in 2013.

As revealed in Chrysler's five-year plan last November, the Jeep Patriot is set for a light makeover in October, possibly adopting the longer headlights and separate grille design of the new Grand Cherokee. An all-new Fiat-based Patriot is scheduled for 2013, replacing the Compass at the same time.

The Compass is also scheduled for an update this year, although it is likely to be the model's last salvo. It is expected to be cancelled sometime in 2012.

Reported in more detail in April, the beloved Wrangler will get a refresh later this year before moving to an all-new and exclusive platform in 2013, developed specifically for the Wrangler.
