Sydneysiders will be the first to get a glimpse of the new Range Rover Evoque on local roads, with one of the camouflaged compact SUVs on its way to Australia as part of the company's global testing program.

Wrapped in a bright blue-on-black print of Sydney's CBD, the special visitor is one of 10 prototypes travelling the world both as part of the brand's region-specific technical testing and, as the audacious graphics show, a spot of publicity.

“Ordinarily, prototypes are disguised for discretion, but these 10 are intended to be seen,” a Range Rover statement said.

Despite the flashy unveiling the Evoque received in London recently, Range Rover says there are still some 17,000 tests still to be done before development of the compact SUV can be signed off.

"The development stage is crucial in the year leading up to launching the car," Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programmes said.

"No stone is left unturned; we have a team of experienced and skilled engineers who will work to a tight schedule to ensure we have a top quality vehicle to offer our customers."

Other cities to receive a special Evoque envoy include Berlin, Milan, Madrid, Moscow, New York, Sao Paulo, Paris, Shanghai and, just around the corner from head office, London.

While the Hello Sydney Evoque is expected to appear in the coming weeks, the car's official Australian unveiling is scheduled to take place at October's Australian International Motor Show - also in Sydney this year.

If it can survive Sydney's mottled streets, there's little else in the Australian environment that the all-new Evoque won't be able to handle.
