2010 nissan pathfinder st st l ti australia update press photos 02

Nissan Australia has announced the arrival of its updated-for-2010 Nissan Pathfinder 4WD wagon. The update features a revised interior with increased specification and freshened exterior styling, but the big news is under the bonnet.

Those expecting the new 3.0 litre V6 turbodiesel featured in the European model will be disappointed, however significant upgrades to the popular 2.5 litre turbo-diesel engine give the updated Pathfinder renewed competitive edge in its segment with increased power and torque.

The range starts at $48,490 (all prices are Manufacturer's List Price) for the ST Manual (unchanged), topping out with the Ti auto at $65,990 - an increase of $2,750 over the previous model.

Styling

The updated Pathfinder gets a mild facelift which, according to Nissan, is designed to give the 4WD a modernised, 'tougher' and more sporting appearance.

While the sheetmetal styling remains largely unchanged, updates include a new bonnet, grille and bumper assembly up front, complemented by a new headlight design.

The new front bumper assembly adds 80mm to the car’s overall length, while the rear bumper has also been restyled with squared-off edges.

Interior

The 2010 update brings a raft of revisions in the Pathfinder’s cabin, including a revised centre-stack, new door trims, chrome highlights and a new luxury cloth for ST models.

Drivers and front seat passengers of the Pathfinder ST-L benefit from heated leather seats as standard, with eight-way driver seat and four-way passenger seat power adjustment.

There is also a memory feature for the driver’s seat and door mirrors, features previously restricted to the Ti models.

In keeping with the updated Pathfinder's 'toughened' theme, woodgrain trim previously standard in the Ti is replaced by a more modern metallic trim, complete with revised dials and all-wheel-drive selection controls.

Equipment

The updated model also brings with it a significant increase in equipment and technology. Pathfinder Ti models now feature auto-levelling Xenon headlights, with concealed headlamp washers.

The ST-L and Ti models also gain electric folding door mirrors with integrated indicator lights.

Standard features for the ST-L model now include Bluetooth, iPod and USB connectivity, a six-disc CD changer, illuminated steering-mounted controls and dual-zone climate-control air-conditioning.

On the safety front, the new Pathfinder features Nissan’s Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), incorporating a Traction Control System (TCS) and Anti-lock brakes (ABS) in addition to dual front and side SRS airbags.

The mid-range ST-L adds curtain airbags which extend through the second and third row seating, leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats with memory feature, electric folding door mirrors, “Intelligent Key” keyless entry and reversing sensors.

At the top of the range, the Pathfinder Ti features Satellite Navigation with a seven-inch colour touchscreen and DVD player (front and rear), 9.3gb of memory storage for music and full iPod and USB connectivity.

Also standard in the Ti is a reversing camera with Predictive Path Technology.

Mechanical

While there is no news of the 3.0 litre V6 turbo-diesel offered with European Pathfinder models, the existing 2.5 litre turbo-diesel has come in for significant revision.

Nissan says the 'new' 2.5 litre YDK3 engine gains a 15 percent improvement over the outgoing YD25 version, with power increased to 140kW/450Nm - up 14kW (11 percent) and 47Nm (12 percent) respectively.

Towing capacity has also been upgraded, with all Pathfinder models able to tow up to 3000kg (braked).

A six-speed manual transmission is standard on ST and ST-L (unavailable on Ti), and a five-speed automatic is optional for both ST and ST-L and standard on Ti.

Paired with the manual transmission, the Pathfinder lists a fuel consumption figure of 8.5 l/100km, an improvement of 15 percent compared to the outgoing Pathfinder.

Automatic models list a fuel consumption figure of 9.0 l/100km, a 13 percent improvement. Both transmissions run through a dual range transfer case, and feature the familiar ALL-MODE 4X4 system.

Due to overwhelming demand for the diesel engine (and with the marked improvements of the updated engine), Nissan has cancelled the 4.0 litre petrol V6.

Pricing

The Pathfinder range opens with the ST Manual at $48,490, which is unchanged from the previous model.

The Pathfinder ST-L is up $3,500 over its predecessor and the Ti price increases by $2,750 - although both models add a number of features over the pre-update model.

  • Pathfinder ST Manual - $48,490
  • Pathfinder ST Automatic - $51,490
  • Pathfinder ST-L Manual - $56,490
  • Pathfinder ST-L Automatic - $59,490
  • Pathfinder Ti Automatic - $65,990

Note: all prices are Manufacturer’s List Price only, and do not include dealer delivery or statutory charges.
