Following the launch back in June of the updated 2011 DB9, new images this week show that development of an update to the company's top-shelf DBS is also well underway.

On initial inspection, these new photos reveal tougher modifications to the spied test car's front and rear aero elements. However, comparison with earlier photos shows that while this car is using the DBS' current headlights, units similar to the LED-equipped headlights of the four-door Rapide super-saloon may also debut with the DBS.

Also different to earlier photos (and the existing 2010 DBS) are the taillights, with this test car wearing the regular red units of the DB9 rather than the usual clear/grey lamps of the DBS.

As with the earlier photos, the camouflaged test car's bonnet also appears to sport revised lines.

Aston has yet to offer any word on the updated DBS, or what else it might entail, and it remains to be seen what the British supercar marque has in store for its top-shelf models.

Reports out of Europe claim power figures will hover around the same 380kW and 570Nm produced by Aston's 6.0 litre V12 engine. If Aston is looking to give the DBS a substantial power upgrade, it could look to the 522kW 7.3 litre V12 that powers the limited-edition One-77.

With Aston confirming recently that it will cooperate with Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler on a number of future projects, AMG's multi-clutch transmission may find its way into the updated DBS, replacing the existing hydraulically-actuated manual transmission.
