WITH A VIEW to once-more matching its German rivals, Nissan is reportedly working to boost power for the upcoming 2012 Nissan GT-R, tweaking its suspension and aerodynamics in the process.

While the 3.8 litre twin-turbo V6 of the current-generation GT-R produces a hefty 353kW, Nissan is expected to increase output to over 373kW (500hp) and 610Nm of torque.

By comparison, the current Porsche 911 Turbo also produces 373kW, although the more hardcore 911 Turbo S delivers a considerably heftier 395kW.

The current GT-R maintains its strength at the Nurburgring however, with only the GT2 RS bettering the Japanese car in the ongoing Porsche-Nissan battle at the German circuit.

Unconfirmed reports out of Germany claim that the 2012 GT-R has already bettered the official 7:26 Nurburgring run of the current model.

On the styling front, the updated GT-R is expected to remain largely unchanged except for functional elements, including a new front splitter and a new wing.
