SKODA'S SUPERB and Octavia models are about to get an update for the European market, with perhaps the more significant being the addition of Volkswagen's 150kW 2.0 litre TSI petrol engine to the Superb line-up.

In Australia, the Superb is currently offered with a 1.8 litre TSI petrol engine producing 118kW, a 125kW 2.0 litre TDI diesel and the range-topping 3.6 litre FSI petrol engine, developing 191kW.

Although it has not been confirmed for Australia, the addition of the 2.0 litre TSI petrol engine to the Superb range would give buyers a more powerful option in the entry-level offerings.

In Europe, the 2.0 TSI will be paired with the Volkswagen group's six-speed DSG automatic transmission, rather than the seven-speed DSG offered with the 1.8 litre Superb.

Also in the European line-up, the Octavia will get a new common-rail 2.0 litre TDI CR DPF diesel engine.

While the local Octavia's 2.0 TDI produces 103kW, the new TDI engine offers 130kW. It will be available in Europe with both manual and automatic transmissions.

No Australian updates have been announced as yet, but Skoda Australia has been contacted.

The Skoda Superb Wagon is due to launch in Australia this month, but it remains to be seen what engines it will arrive with.
