We’ve presented plenty of news on the Toyobaru or Subota Toyota/Subaru RWD Coupe. We thought we knew all about it but with every new day comes a new contradiction. It will be cheap, it won’t be cheap, there will be a turbo AWD version there won’t be - you get the picture.
What we think we know, is that the new coupe will be based on a modified Subaru Impreza platform with a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated Subaru boxer four-cylinder providing power to the rear wheels. We hope that recent news suggesting the Toyota badged version will be reserved for the JDM market exclusively is just another internet rumour. We also hope its cheap and a turbo RWD version would be super.
We also think that the above mystery spy photo could very well be the car in question but we’ll let you be the judge of that.

As pretty as many subarus are not, I find it hard to believe that the hacked up photoshop images portrayed here would be even close to what Toyobaru are allegedly planning to slap together. Not even Subaru could release make something that bad. Not buying this lot of images as genuine.
It could easily be a development mule, which would give very little indication of the finished styling.

If this “Liberty” Coupe is real why don’t subaru go one step further and release a Liberty “Brumby” Ute?

It’s pretty obvious that it’s a mule. Automakers often use hacked up versions of their existing models to test the new underbody to be used in their next model.

Utes are traditionally for a Bloke his mate or his wife/girlfriend and his Blue Heeler a couple of slabs and/or a motor bike.
I might have to have a word to Hillier Conversions -they built the AU Coupe and the Raptor Ute.
Who the hell made that ugly, OBVIOUSLY, Photoshopped, version of the new sports car by Toyota and Subaru?? C’mon now, some of us can tell it’s an older Legacy fused with the rear of some kinda wagon or sedan. Must be some import hating domestic junk driver, trying to, but not succeeding to fool some of us. Anyway, whatever it is… it still looks better than what’s in GM, Ford, or Chryslers lineups. HAHAA
Guys I love the celica, all 7 generations of the name, but if this joined company car is a fail then imma be really upset, it would be nice to see a new supra tho. That last gen. tore streets apart. What I don’t get tho Is why can’t they jusp pick up where they left off instead of creating and designing a whole new car? An same to the supra. Props to the supra guys
