In preparation for the up-coming launch of the VE Series ute and wagon, Holden have re-introduced the SVZ badge to help clear remaining stocks of the venerable VZ ute and keep wagon sales ticking along.
The all new VE ute is due to hit showrooms by October this year with the wagon to follow in early 2008. The SVZ special editions have proven popular in the past and kept sales momentum up by offering a swag of extras to tempt the canny bargain hunter. While those in the know will sit back and wait for the better VE based product the punter with a keen eye for a value deal will find the SVZ Special Editions a tempting proposition.
When the last SVZ Special Edition was seen in showrooms in 2006 it came with a drive-away price and although that is not the case this time the starting price for the wagon at $32,490 (plus dealer delivery and government charges) is $2,000 below the 2006 edition. The wagon makes do with the standard 172kW/320Nm Alloytec engine and four-speed automatic.
The SVZ wagon enjoys a number of extras over and above the standard equipment found in the Executive wagon.
Commodore SVZ wagon specifications
- 17-inch alloy wheels (4)
- Distinctive front fascia with fog lamps
- Sports-luxury suspension
- Chrome exhaust extension
- Body coloured mirror scalps
- Black bezel headlamps
- Body colour rear wind deflector and roof rails
- Roof rack
- SVZ rear badge
- Anthracite cloth seat trim with leather faced bolsters
- Air conditioning
- 6 disc in-dash CD player
- Front and rear power windows
- Leather-wrap steering wheel
- Leather wrapped automatic transmission selector & handbrake grip
This time around the ute is also available in SVZ guise (it wasn’t in 2006) and is priced from $29,990 (plus dealer delivery and government charges) for the six speed manual version with the 5-speed auto being a $1,000 option.
The SVZ ute is powered by the same engine currently doing time in Holden’s VE series Commodore. It’s a high output version of the 3.6-litre Alloytec V6, producing 190kW at 6500rpm with the automatic gearbox and 187kW at 6000rpm with the manual. Both versions produce 335Nm of torque at 3200rpm.
Some new colours from the VE sedan range can be ordered, including “Provence”, “Sandstorm”, “Red Passion”, “Nickel”, “Evoke”, “Vespers Blue”, “Impulse”, “Phantom” and “Heron White” with metallic paint being a $400 option. For those feeling adventurous the rather garish VE Commodore colour “Morpheous” metallic is also available, as seen in the pictures.
In addition to the standard ute features, the SVZ ute includes a number of added extras.
Commodore SVZ ute specifications
- 18-inch alloy wheels with full size alloy spare (CV8-R)
- Performance brake package
- Red painted brake callipers (Holden logo on front brakes)
- Onyx leather seats and door trim with SVZ embroided logo on seat face
- SVZ exterior badging
Both the SVZ wagon and ute are available from Holden dealers now. The SVZ Special Edition offer is only available to private buyers.

I think the current wagon deal is great But I have been bitten before. When the holden denied they where bring out a GEN III v8. I remember ringing holden ,ringing certain car magarzines and car dealers all deing that it was true. So I purchased a 98 HSV Club sport and 6 months later Oout come the GEN III. I need a wagon but this time I will wait. Any Spy pics on ute or wagons out there?
Hey Zippa. You are not alone…I bought a 98 Clubsport also only to have the 5.7 chev come out a year later. I knew about it but was younger and more impatient…
I’d wait for the VE Wagon. By all reports it is on the way and due in the showrooms early 08. It will be a bit of a looker and VE is far better than VZ. There are no wagon spy shots yet but you can see some ute ones here http://www.carupdate.com.au/category/ve-commodore-ute/
I think wagon is look cool. Affordable price as well. Especially if the alloy wheels can be upgraded to 18 or 19 inch with CV8 design in Black machined. There’s lots of great prices for this wheel style lately such as below:

Understand they are aftermarket fitments. But they should fit fine and look absolutely stunning!… Am buying this wagon to replace my VT commodore or should I get VE instead?…. What’s the difference.
Pity the SVZ wagon does not get the High output V6 and 5-speed auto, and at least optional side airbags.
Guess I’ll have to wait for VE too. Hope GMH don’t stuff that one up too.
Just bought a svz wagon in evoke (the dark metallic grey same as pic above) $33000 on the road. What a bargain. Sold the trusty old VT wagon. VE wagon would be nice but i’ll bet they wont be as cheap as these. $6000 worth of free stuff. (read the list of specs). The 3.6 litre goes even better than the old 3.8 litre and this wagon is heavier than the old VT. A VE wagon with all of this gear will be $40000 plus and anyway i couldnt wait any longer.
“still HOLDEN up traffic”
Just bought an SVZ sedan with 15000k’s on the clock for $28600. Took a VE Lumina for a test drive but hubby and I were most impressed with the extras available in the SVZ compared to VE. For example, leather interior was not included and if one did want this option in the VE, extra dollars would have to be forked out. I only wish we could have the car in Morpheous.
can you please send me some specs on the new commodore VE wagon
Paul, specs havent been released for the Sportwagon yet but expect it to be mechanically identical to the equivalent sedan models, changes are all in the sheet-metal. You can check out some pictures that we took at the Sydney Motor Show at the following link http://www.carupdate.com.au/2344/holdens-e85-sportswagon-concept-stars-in-sydney/
