FIAT IS working on a four-door version of its diminutive Fiat 500 ahead of a late-2011 debut, according to sources within Fiat. Our new rendering (above) offers one look at how the 500 might look with a second pair of doors.

While reports early last year of a Fiat 500 'Giardiniera' softroader wagon have yet to yield results, US industry paper Automotive News claims that three unnamed sources within Fiat have confirmed the future five-door 500.

According to AutoNews, the five-door 500 is known internally as the L0, and will be classified in Europe as a 'small minivan'. The model will reportedly be offered both in Europe and in overseas markets, utilising a longer and wider version of the current 500 platform.

With the long-awaited Fiat 500 Abarth still to be get an official Australian launch date, it remains to be seen whether the five-door variant will ever make its way to local showrooms.
