Following the local launch late last year of the Q7 V12 TDI, Audi Australia has today announced a number of updates for the huge SUV, including two new V6 engines, an updated V8 and an eight-speed tiptronic transmission.

Unveiled at the Leipzig Auto Show in Germany earlier this year, the updated 2010 Audi Q7 gets a revised version of the V8 diesel engine, a new 3.0 litre TFSI V6 petrol engine and a new 3.0 litre TDI V6 diesel.

All V6 and V8 Q7 models are now also available with a new eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission, offering a five percent reduction in fuel consumption. Based on the previous six-speed transmission, the new auto features higher ratios, along with Drive and Sports modes.

Replacing the previous 3.6 litre FSI engine, the supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 produces 245kW and 440Nm of torque, pushing the two-and-a-half tonne Q7 to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds. Fuel consumption is listed as 10.7 l/100km, with emissions at 249g/km.

Audi has also updated its 3.0 litre V6 TDI engine, now weighing-in 20kg less than its predecessor. Producing 176kW and 550Nm of torque (2000-2500pm), the turbodiesel engine makes its way to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds. Fuel consumption is listed at 7.8 l/100km, making for a 19 percent improvement over the engine it replaces.

The larger 4.2 litre V8 TDI has not been overlooked, it too gets an upgrade, getting a 2000-bar fuel-injection system and tweaks to minimise internal friction. While power is unchanged at 250kW, torque has been increased from 760Nm to 800Nm (1750-2750rpm).

The range-topping Q7 V12 TDI remains the flagship in the range, its engine carrying over unchanged from the 2010 model year. Power is listed at 368kW and 1000Nm of torque, sent through a six-speed tiptronic transmission. Audi claims the V12 TDI is capable of dispatching the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.5 seconds and also of achieving average fuel consumption figures of 11.3 l/100km.
