Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Replacement Spied

AS THE OLDEST model in Ferrari’s current line-up, the 612 Scaglietti is fast approaching its sell-by date.

The F430 (which went on sale in 2004, the same year as the 612) has already had its replacement, the F458 Italia introduced to the world, but a replacement for the venerable Scaglietti has yet to be announced.

However, these images of a 612-bodied test mule spied undergoing trials in Northern Europe show that Ferrari is already at work on an all-new replacement large grand-tourer.

Compared to the 612, this prototype has a slightly longer wheelbase, a different exhaust (with California-esque quad-stacked tailpipes) and a new engine package that necessitates a prominent power bulge.

The brake package on this test mule appears to be the same size as the standard Scaglietti’s, however the production car’s hardware may differ.

Don’t be fooled by this development mule’s appearance either: the 612 Scaglietti’s styling will be completely different to that of its predecessor.

Exactly when we’ll get to lay eyes on a completed production-ready model isn’t apparent, but sources say testing of prototypes fitted with the new bodywork will commence in the second half of 2010.
