Brisbane Gateway Bridge Toll To Jump 90 Cents

THE QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT is set to increase the toll on Brisbane's Gateway Bridge by 90 cents from July, jumping to $3.85 for private cars.

The increase will see regular commuters paying around $9 extra each week - an increase that follows the loss of Queensland's 8 cents-per-litre fuel subsidy.

State Treasurer Andrew Fraser has described the increase as justified, saying it should not come as a surprise to motorists because an increase to $3.60 had already been announced.

 

"The increase here of 35 cents [over the original increase to $3.60] is about delivering half-a-billion-dollars worth of road upgrade," Mr Fraser told the ABC.

"I think that's a proposition that represents value for money because of the road upgrade and that's the proposition we're putting before people."

 

Speaking with AAP, the RACQ's Gary Fites said that the increase will help the Queensland Government sell Queensland Motorways, after announcing it would offload a number of state assets.

    They need to minimum service levels on the great Brisbane car park. Honestly even with the upgrades this road will still be a car park.

    why does NSW QLD and VIC have [Privately Owned/Operated] Toll-roads.... but SA WA and TAS - with their much smaller population[s] don't.

    Bye Bye Anna "Pirate" Bligh. You've lost my vote biatch. First the fuel (which makes us the most expensive state - contrary to Bligh saying it would bring us in line with the others!), and now a toll increase on the bridge?

    Arrrrrgh me Hearties, its time to abandon ship!
