LATE LAST YEAR, Kia's Peter Schreyer gave a presentation that revealed of a single sketch signalling Kia's continuing push toward sharper, edgier styling.

Today, Kia has released a series of new illustrations clearly inspired by that same design, previewing the next generation Kia Magentis (sold locally as the Kia Optima).

Scheduled to debut at April's New York Auto Show, the new Magentis/Optima is longer, lower and wider than the ageing MG - launched internationally in 2005 and updated with Kia's new 'Schreyer Line' grille in 2008.

The new Magentis is due to go on sale in the USA later this year, with European sales scheduled for early 2011. No details have been announced of an Australian debut.

Kia has not revealed any technical details for the new Magentis, but more information is expected to accompany the car's unveiling in New York.
