Tesla Roadster Launched In Right-Hand-Drive; Australia Next?

NEARLY A YEAR after opening its first dealership in London - where cars are, sensibly, driven on the left side of the road - Tesla Motors has launched the Tesla Roadster in right-hand-drive.

While the launch of the right-hook Roadster wasn't accompanied with news of future markets, Tesla boss Elon Musk has said in the past that he considers Australia a significant market for the company.

While Musk's comments might suggest that an Australian launch could be on the cards, it was revealed only last week that Tesla will discontinue the current generation Roadster from 2011 - presumably to focus on development of the upcoming Model S sedan.

In all likelihood, any right-hand-drive current-generation Roadsters destined for export will be snapped up in the UK, India, Japan and Hong Kong before making their way to Australia in any significant numbers.

Short of a grey import scenario, keen Australians may find themselves waiting for the 2013 Tesla Roadster - assuming it'll be offered in a RHD layout from launch.

    Tesla discontinuing their current roadster in 2011 has nothing to do with the model S.

    That's when the Lotus Elise it's based on is due to be replaced. They'll somply do a new car.
