FOLLOWING THE unveiling last year of its Evora Type 124 race car, Lotus has today revealed its newest race-ready model: the Lotus Evora Cup, built to GT4 specifications.

While Lotus has not revealed exact power figures, the British sports carmaker confirmed that its 4.0 litre V6 engine develops more than 295kW - compared to the 206kW of the 'regular' model's 3.5 litre V6.

The Evora Cup's mid-mounted engine is paired with a Cima six-speed sequential paddle shift 'dog' transmission, designed specifically for motorsport.

Shedding around 200kg thanks to the use of even more carbon fibre and the deletion of unnecessary components, the Evora Cup weighs in at 'less than' 1200kg.

Lotus has offered no specific performance numbers, but the age-old equation of More Power + Less Weight is likely to see the race-special Cup strip a second or two off the regular Evora's roughly 5.0 second 0-100km/h sprint.

From the Cup's somewhat sparse details, it would appear to have more in common with the visually identical Type 124 than not - livery aside.

The Lotus Evora Cup has been developed to compete in a new European one-make racing series the company is launching this year, also known as the Evora Cup. The series' winner will receive a $155,000 prize - just short of the car's $209,400 purchase price but enough to cover the road-going Evora's $156,990 price.
