A MYSTERY ILLUSTRATION, purportedly of a new Volkswagen concept dubbed 'New Coupe Concept', has surfaced online ahead of a possible Detroit Motor Show debut this week.
Reportedly based on the upcoming Jetta sedan, the New Coupe Concept (if it exists) is expected to be a near-production-ready version of a future Jetta Coupe.
If it comes to fruition, the New Coupe Concept marks even greater diversity in the growing Volkswagen line-up. Already, three-door models exist for the Polo and Golf, along with the stylish Scirocco coupe and the Passat CC four-door 'coupe'.
While Volkswagen has offered no official details for the NCC - or even confirmed its existence - the well-proportioned coupe is expected to draw power from a petrol-electric hybrid system.
Volkswagen has experimented with hybrid technology for some time, with a Touareg hybrid in the works and a hybrid version of the upcoming Golf VII rumoured to be in development.
Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen's Research and Development boss, is reported to have said that the diesel hybrid technology that allows Volkswagen’s Up! Lite concept to achieve fuel economy figures of 2.44 l/100km could be upscaled to larger vehicles.
Note: Colour added to black & white 'New Coupe Concept' by TMR.
