Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Little Brother Under Consideration: Report

Mike Stevens | Jan 7, 2010

REPORTS THAT MERCEDES-BENZ is considering a smaller SLS-based V8 coupe refuse to die, with more rumours this week that the German carmaker is investigating a 911 fighter.

When last we reported on the topic, reports suggested a V8 engine displacing between 5.8 to 6.2 litres would drive the coupe, built on a shortened version of the SLS platform.

Quoting unidentified insider sources, reports in the European press suggest AMG's new 5.5 litre turbo-charged and direct-injected engine will provide motivation, producing around 375kW - compared to the SLS AMG's 420kW 6.2 litre V8.

Dubbed 'SSK', the new model would switch out the SLS AMG's distinctive 'gullwing' doors, using more conventional front-hinged examples to keep price down - and likely to maintain the SLS AMG's unique style.

The new model will reportedly launch in 2014, where today's reports, if not realised, will be more easily forgotten.

Well hopefully it will be more in the style of the original classic gull-wing from the 60's. Because IMHO the new SLS looks more like a Merc-Laren which has been smashed into a wall

The other thing is that Merc-Benz made a limited edition of [40] SS-K Tourer/Roadsters in the 1920-30s.. which produced 220Kw form its supercharged inline 6
