PETER SCHREYER, the man responsible for Kia's new styling language and the 'Schreyer Line' grille, has revealed a sketch for the Korean carmaker's new 'K9' concept.

Rather than alluding to any connection with man's best friend, the K9 moniker is in line with previous Kia concepts, including the K7/KND-5 (Cadenza) and the Kia No 3 (Venga).

Unveiling the illustration at a design conference in Seoul this week, Mr Schreyer reportedly compared the design language to that of the Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series.

Mr Schreyer said the illustration is intended to offer a glimpse of what is to come for Kia, possibly as a successor to the Kia Optima sedan.

The new illustration lends credence to reports that Kia is developing a larger luxury sedan built on the Hyundai Equus platform, with a debut expected to come some time in 2011.
