2010 Toyota Corolla Update Announced

TOYOTA AUSTRALIA has revealed details and pricing for the updated-for-2010 Toyota Corolla hatch.

Toyota's VSC electronic Stability control system is now standard across the hatch line-up, as are side airbags, Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

As reported last month, the updated Corolla gains a number of subtle but significant styling revisions, previewed by the Japanese and UK market Auris.

Sharper headlights lifted directly from the Auris HSD concept flank a wider grille opening, above a more prominent lower grille and larger fog lights.

Updates to the rear are less obvious: a new bumper - replete with faux diffuser insert flanked by large reflectors - joins a wider number plate space and grab plate.

The tail-lights maintain the outgoing model’s shape, with slight cosmetic updates to the lens and internal shaping.

New 16-inch wheels have been added to the Conquest/Levin SX and Levin ZR models.

Previously available as part of a $1500 Enhanced Safety Pack (except for the Conquest Hatch and Levin ZR where it was a standard feature), Toyota's VSC electronic stability control is now standard across the range - ahead of the Federal Government's 2011 ESC mandate.

Side airbags, standard on the previous Conquest and Levin ZR models, are now standard on the base model Ascent and SX.

Conquest, Levin SX and Levin ZR have a premium steering wheel with audio and multi-information controls.

New interior seat and door trim has been added to the Corolla, including a new soft-touch material for the meter hood and glove compartment lid.

A new metallic-look silver finish has been applied to the centre console, and the centre console compartment lid gets a fabric trim.

Other new interior features include a more ergonomic handbrake lever design and actuation range, a new tone colour for the heater control panel, an upgraded dual-zone air conditioning for Levin ZR, and new ISO-compliant indicator lamps in the instrument panel.

The 2010 Corolla's powertrain and transmission options remain unchanged from the previous line-up.

Darren, my neighbour just bought one, not this new model but previous ( with bigger after market wheels ) and it does look sharp ( all black ). if only it had a 2 litre turbo or a dong that makes 150Kw plus, RWD than it would be awesome

The current 1.8L engine is a tad weak. What it really needs is either a more powerful 2.0L engine and/or turbo option. Then it will be almost perfect.

Which Toyota dealership can i buy one from you Darren?

As stick mentioned, the corolla is missing what every other manufacturer worth buying in the segment produces.

It is a shame that with such a long history in the name plate that Toyota don't produce an upspec AWD turbo version.

Will wait and see what the Lexus hot-hatch comes out like. That will probably be wrong wheel drive too.

Scored one this week from Bayswater car rental. I even checked I wasn't dreaming but the boggo standard one has the USB which works perfectly with my iPhone, the pairing with BT was reasonably easy but the sound quality is a bit crappy. But hey, it's $22k. No fireball in auto but I agree with Jess' last point, soulless.

Which is exactly what you want in a rental...

Love the new look and the safety features at my age are the selling point.
I need a car which won't break down, and my 01 corolla has never done so.
Just ordered a 2010 conquest after a test drive.
    6 weeks wait, darn.
