370Z Revealed, Vampire Look Is Officially "In"

Oh dear. After speculative renderings of a facelifted 350Z surfaced in a Japanese car magazine earlier this year (below), many dismissed the images as being the product of a misinformed editor and a sleep-deprived graphic artist. Little did we know that the pictures of a be-fanged Z-car were actually well-grounded in fact.

Nissan 370Z rendering - Best Car

The rather grainy picture at the top of the post was snapped at a recent Nissan event, and it clearly depicts both the prominent 'underbite' of the front bumper as well as the Maxima-esque headlight clusters.

Although half of the car is obscured in shadow, it's still quite easy to spot other fundamental differences between the 370Z and the current 350Z, like the junction between the A-pillar, bonnet and front quarter panel. The C-Pillar has also been heavily reworked, developing a prominent 'kink' and becoming part of the body sheetmetal rather than being integral to the hatch, much like that of its great-granddaddy, the 240Z.

The rest of the package should ring bells for those familiar with the 350Z: The aluminium door pulls have been retained, and those classic wheelarches are also here to stay. The bonnet has lost the bulge of the current VQ35HR-equipped 350Z, suggesting that the 246kW 3.7-litre VQ37VHR that's tipped to power the 370Z is mounted lower than the outgoing motor.

It looks pretty weird, but I've got to admit that those L-shaped headlights are beginning to grow on me: they seem to work a lot better on the 370Z than they do on the Maxima. However, those lights in combination with that front bumper would make this car look absolutely ridiculous in anybody's rear-vision mirror, but I'm sure the aftermarket industry will churn out a replacement bumper to fix up the 370Z's dental work fairly quickly after its launch.

The 370Z is expected to make it's official debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show on November 19.

It is different and controversial. For that, I like it.
Too bad this car is looking like it is going to be even more popular with the mid-life crisis/doctor/lawyer/golfer crowd.

If only they get rid of that kink in the headlight.
It'll look more like a modern take on the classic 240z.

Are you guys blind ? Apart from the 'shape' being similar .... the lights are totally different (i like them), the B-C pillar window looks awesome the way it rises up ..... And those rear flared guards = WOW!

OH DEAR???? I think the styling is a step in the right direction!

Am still not 100% convinced thats the 'final version' so to speak --- I'd of thought it'd be a little more toned down. If that is the final pre-release, I give it two thumbs up.

eXACTLY sHIRI, Which is why i LIKE IT!

Window Line is the biggest difference to the 350s.

Hmmmmm.....first impression is that it's the same as 350Z but then you start to notice the new window line and the more bulkier fenders, which is a good sign. Looking at this angle, I'll say the REAR QUARTER of the car is really pretty. Can't say much a bout the front of the car until the complete pic comes out. I'm hoping they revise the head light and front bumper to something a little more exotic.

I really don't like those headlights. I don't like the overbite fangs in the grille either. Its also still got a giant, bus-sized Nissan badge on the front.

I love the S30 style rear quarter window and roof. The bonnet bulge looks a bit more elegant than the current 2008 model.

Its meant to be shorter than the current 350Z, which should make it more nimble. That engine is amazing, compared to the engine in the 350Z.

In other words, should finances permit, there's a good chance I'll buy one.

Those headlights are horrendous. Almost as bad as the lamps on the XF. S#!**Y.

Being a classic Z owner. I'm happy that firstly the Z lives on, but sad that there is little of the old Z there. I'm also likely to be again disappointed with the specs. Both these reasons it won't be a classic or even "cult" as was suggested. I just hope this will be the '280ZX' all over again of the new gen Z's, if you know what I mean.
