Together with rally legends M-Sport, Ford has today unveiled the Fiesta S2000, the company's first global rally car.
Powered by a 2.0 litre inline-four Duratec S2000 engine, the rally-spec Fiesta produces a huge 210kW and 260Nm of torque, redlining at 8000rpm.
Despite the addition of a full roll cage, the Fiesta S2000 weighs in at just 1197kg.
According to M-Sport boss Malcolm Wilson, the Fiesta S2000 is the first rally car the two companies have fielded in five years capable of challenging for overall victory in championships around the world.
“It is also the culmination of a huge amount of hard work not only by Christian Loriaux and his team, but by everyone who works at M-Sport, Wilson said.
We have worked closely with Ford on this project, their best-selling road car, the new Ford Fiesta, has been a perfect base car and its award-winning styling and kinematics together with M-Sport’s expertise will surely make the Fiesta S2000 a huge global success.”
The Fiesta S2000 will be eligible to compete in series such as the IRC and the S2000 World Cup. This coming weekend it will act as the course car for the final round of the 2009 IRC series at the Rally of Scotland.
M-Sport and Ford have worked together on rally cars since the 90s, starting with the Escort Cosworth before moving on to the Ford Focus RS WRC and the Ford Fiesta ST.
Ford says the Fiesta S2000 is due for homologation in January 2010. There are however no details on the road-going version.
